New Year, New Start

It's the start of a new year and I've already been pretty busy. I've been writing 750 words since the 1st of January as part of training my brain to get into the habit of writing everyday. As of tonight I've written a total 9102 words, which is awesome and such a great start to the year.

The plan is that I maintain the daily writing habit and increase the 750 words to 1500 words by April, that could mean writing a novel a month, which is huge for me. The more writing I do the better I'll get.

I'm also reading and studying a lot, my backlog has a backlog but I hope to make steady progress through that over the next few months.

I also hope to get much better at updating, because if there's one thing I hate, it's not being here and taking the time to chat with everyone. I'll be posting a lot about the TV shows I'm watching, getting back into anime and manga and the comics that I'm slowly poking and getting a sense of.

I hope everyone is doing good, that the new year is treating you well and that you're safe. Please feel free to comment, even if it's just one word. :)

Long Time Coming

I am behind on everything, real life has kicked me to hell and messed up my brain in all sorts of ways. I spent the whole of March with a bad back, I couldn't go near my desktop and ended up using my Samsung Galaxy Note to keep up to date on the internet news as well as fandom. My back is back to normal for now and for the first time in 2 months, I'm sleeping normal hours but only if I go to bed at 1 am, otherwise my brain will wake me up at 3 am no matter what hour I go to bed, which sucks like you would not believe.

I've been reading a lot, watching some good films and playing video games. Stress has been a real wrack on me and it's not looking like letting up any time soon, so I won't be as active as I'd like. And that's something I really hate, because while I'm a natural lurker, not being active online doesn't fit me.

I hope everyone is well, I owe a letter or two to a few pen pals, I hope to get those done soon. Please feel free to comment and let me know how you've been doing.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you're all safe, warm and happy with good friends and family. Mum and I doing good, we've been cooking and watching happy movies on TV. We plan to have a mug of mulled wine to cheer in the New Year. Here's to 2013. :)

Checking In

Hello all, after what has been the longest flu in living memory, I'm able at last to sit down and get round to updating. First, [personal profile] kouredios is hosting a friending meme on both DW and LJ.

At the moment I'm mostly taking things one day at a time, real life has been a nightmare and just when I think things begin to calm down, I get hit over the head again. It's no fun.

I've been reading a lot, watching some pretty good new shows and movies. For the moment I'm alive and that's good.

Am Alive

Hello all!

Updating at last. I've spend the last five months or so lurking on the net like a creepy person, so I felt that it was time to show myself. I have new fandoms to enjoy and chat about and Tumblr has been giving me the pretty and making me try out some new shows.

Currently I'm trying Sky One's Sinbad, whose cast is full of POC characters. Teen Wolf because I need a new guilty pleasure. Warehouse 13 for the awesome ladies I've heard about, Continuum for the sci-fi appeal and awesome leading lady. I also have a pretty big backlog of shows and movies to watch. But I'm slowly getting through those.

My current fandom love is Thor and the Avengers. I have all the Loki and Thor feels, plus a passionate crush on Black Window that isn't going to go away any time soon, I'm weak to lady spies and she fits perfectly.  I've been reading some amazing fic in the fandoms and am overjoyed to see the love that she's getting, it's not just about the slash for once, which makes for a nice change.

In gaming I'm playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which is overloading me with the pretty, I haven't seen such a pretty game in a long time, that means that I'm enjoying all the exploring I have to do. The game is huge, I'll be playing for weeks.

That's the short of it, feel free to comment and let me know how you've been doing, I really want to get back in touch with my friends list.

Oh hello there

Um, hello world. Yes, I'm very much alive. Boy, I think this is the longest that I've gone without updating. To be honest, I haven't had anything at all to write about. I've been pretty busy doing lots of things and when I haven't been busy I've been lurking on Tumblr, staring at pretty fan art.

I'm currently busy fixing up our flat. It's taking some time but we're getting there. I'm writing and reading a lot and my XBOX 360 is the most shiny thing ever, I've been playing some pretty amazing games the last few months. My need to fan girl about lots of stuff is the main reason I'm updating at last. Lets hope it lasts.

Feel free to spam me with how you've been doing and let me know about the new shiny fandoms that have caught your eye. :D

Rec Me Films

After watching the Dark Knight last night and some rather lovely classic films over the holiday break (Singing in the Rain!) my love for films has been rekindled. I'm out of the loop, so I'd be happy for any film recs anyone has. What film did you watch recently that really made an impact on you?

Year in Fandom Meme

madame_parker: (Avatar - Aang {Zen})
Your main fandom of the year?
As always, I'm a multifandom girl but for the last five months I've been crazy about the Mass Effect series and the fandom hasn't let me down.

Your favorite film watched this year?
A tie between Alice in Wonderland and Inception

Your favorite book read this year?
I have a massive backlog due to the fact that I haven't been reading that much but my highest rated book this year has been When True Night Falls (The Coldfire Trilogy, #2)by C.S. Friedman

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Most listened to song was My Love by Sia and album was TRON: Legacy by Daft Punk

Your favourite TV show of the year?
Season Five of Doctor Who made me happy on so many levels, it wasn't perfect but it made me smile more than it made me rage, which was hardly ever. I really loved Lost Girl but I'm really hoping that season 2 will be much better. The Good Wife is perfect, so well written and acted. The Vampire Diaries has been a really enjoyable series.

Your favourite Game of the year?
I've added this to the meme because since I got my shiny XBOX 360, I haven't been able to stop playing some amazing games. So, with a few caveats Mass Effect 2 is my game of the year, some things made me twitch but I spent most of my time flailing over female Shepard that I could overlook my issues. A close second is Final Fantasy 13, I haven't finished the game but it got so many reactions from me and so much swooning over quite a few of the characters that it's top in my list.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
The Mass Effect series is pretty damn shiny and the fandom is amazing! Do you know how overjoyed I was to find a fandom that likes female characters?! I spent days reading through the Mass Effect kink meme, 80% of it was for female Shepard paired up with pretty much everyone, I was giddy.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Halo 3, I waited a damn long time and when I finished playing I felt so let down, not a great moment for me. Thank god for Mass Effect.

Your TV video game boyfriend of the year?
Garrus. Thane. The Eleventh Doctor.

Your TV video game girlfriend of the year?
Fang. Lightning. Female Shepard. Aria T'Loak. Amy Pond. Alice Kingsleigh.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Everything Shepard did made me swoon all over her. All I've been doing the last five months is crushing on her.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Non that I can think of. I'm too busy enjoying the new fandoms I'm discovering.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
So many but top of my list is Dragon Age.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Mass Effect 3!

Sometimes I do like shopping

I am now the very happy owner of a brand new XBOX 360 Slim. This is a huge thing for me, because I made the choice a few years ago, just after the 360 came out and the Red Button of Doom started happening that I wouldn't buy one until Microsoft made a better box, till then I was more than happy with the XBOX I had. It was a bloody long wait! All those shiny games coming out and me only able to drool over the trailers. But no more. I'm going shopping for games today. Hoping to find Halo 3 and maybe Final Fantasy 13.

Are there any gamers on my Friends List? I'd love some game recs. I want to really make good use of the one month free Gold membership on XBOX Live by downloading demos.

madame_parker: (Stock - Text {doing research})
I have a really good reason for not updating this long. I've been looking into volunteering work and been very busy filling in forms, doing a lot of research and making sure that the other side of my life doesn't fall out of whack. Also, I'm overwhelmed at how the ebook industry has just burst big time.

On the fandom side of things I've discovered;
  • How fun and kick ass the Resident Evil movie series is. Anyone can say what they want, I adore it because it has a female character in the lead who is not only powerful but who also has her own story.
  • Have re-discovered my love for the tv series Due South. It can still make me laugh.
  • Have also discovered Highlander: the Series, am slowly poking my way through the fandom.
  • Read and enjoyed the Coldfire trilogy by Celia Friedman. Again, poking through the fandom, thank god it's small and seems to have mostly really good writers.
So, that's quite a lot. And I still have to get through My So-Called Life, which I've heard good things about. And a bucket load of YA books.

Ran out of witty subject line

I'm quite awful at updating. I think that's why I love microblogging so much, I can say as little as I want and not worry if I've written enough. As a result I spend most of my time on Twitter and Tumblr. I'm also rather shy and a lurker, I never know if I get my point across very well, I always feel like I don't have the right words to express my thoughts on whatever subject matter I'm interested in.

It's not  a fun feeling. Always doubting yourself can be damn tiring. I'm a writer but on the spot, fly by the seat of your pants writing is something that freaks the crap out of me.

So I read a lot and live in hope that one day I can express my thoughts in neat little posts that everyone can get something from. It's a working thing, always learning. At least I'm enjoying that bit.

Sorry I haven't updated for a bit, I've been very busy doing a lot of things, both online and in real life. But I have had time to bookmark some amazing photo articles and I thought that I'd post a round up of the best.

Just posting some links that I've found while sorting my bookmarks and thought that everyone else might find them a good read.

Top of the list is Coyote Con, which is a 31 Day Digital Author Conference starting in May and best of all it's free. I've already signed up.
Geena Davis’ new study on gender bias in kids’ media - This post makes me crazy happy, because God knows there should be a hell of a lot more girls on TV who are just as cool as the boys. Also, how cool is Geena Davis?
Truckers Pick Up Quilting and Knitting - This whole article is just really lovely but also bittersweet.
Tough Girls On Film Bound By Gender Roles - Proving once again that times haven't changed one bit when it comes to women and how they are written in films. And I know from reading a boatload of meta that it's the same in most Romance novels as well.

Come On Closer

As today is my birthday, I feel that it's a perfect date to start posting in this journal.

So, tiny bio. I go by Anya when online, I'm 26-years-old and I live in London, United Kingdom. I'm a daydreaming bookworm, who worries a lot, likes gen stories above all other stories and hopes to write a really good novel one day.

I have a cat named Buffy whom I worship. I prefer being alone than in a crowd, I like going for long walks and a library/bookshop is my church. Not much to go on but I hope that once I start posting, you'll have a good chance of getting to know me better.

Feel free to comment and tell me about yourself.

Galactic Fairy [A Sheryl Nome Picsapm]

My love for Sheryl Nome is pretty crazy. I wouldn't have loved Macross Frontier half as much as I did if Sheryl hadn't been in it. She won me over with her music and her passion for everything around her. And when she broke a little, I wanted to hug her and cheered like a crazy thing when she picked herself up and came back a little sadder but stronger. This picspam is epic and doesn't even begin to cover how awesome Sheryl is, for that you'll have to watch the anime.   Click for the shiny )

Offering Up A Recipe

My last entry was written while high on green tea smoothie, yes, you read that right. It went right to my brain and it was kind of fun. I'm back to normal now. Well as normal as I can be.

Laura asked me what's in a green tea smoothie, so here is the recipe;

Green Tea and Berry Smoothie

Half a litre of orange juice
1 banana
300 grams of frozen mixed berries
200 ML of vanilla yogurt
400 ML of green tea, cooled

Mix together in a blender till smooth.

It's very nice, great for summer. Let me know if any of you try it and like it.

Books and Things

I've finished reading Guards! Guards! and I also read Good Omens in 24 hours, messing up my clock even more. I enjoyed both, and plan on posting about my thoughts on the books. Right, I'm going to have a bath in a moment, so I leave you with a meme I found.

Assemble a super team from your favorite films, TV shows, books etc. Your team must consist of the following: Team Leader, Warrior, Smartypants, Hottie, Comic Relief. You may not use more than one character from each source.

Team Leader: Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing (Hellsing)
Warrior: Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)
Smartypants: Dr. Greg House (House)
Hottie: Radu Barvon (Trinity Blood)
Comic Relief: Tamaki Suou (Ouran High School Host Club)

That is just made up of crack, oh my God so much crack! And now, my reasons for those characters. Intergral would take no bullshit from any of them on the team, she's good at being a leader. Ichigo is damn hard to beat, he just doesn't give up, always fighting. House is a snarky, clever son of a bitch who could put down anyone, also he might cause most of the battles the team will end up fighting. Radu, lol, I'm sorry, someone from Trinity Blood had to be in the team and Radu, is hot, even when covered in blood and dirt. Tamaki always made me laugh my eyes out in the anime, he's perfect comic relief.

My Heart Opens to Your Voice
By Madame Parker
Rated: G
Summary: After many months of marriage, Hisana finds her heart has at last accepeted Byakuya. {General/Romance}
Author's Note: It's 2 months late but I've at last written the Byakuya/Hisana story I set out to write. This was written last night, both characters walked into my head and acted out this scene, of course they only made it easy for me if I played on repeat this song, it's from the opera Samson et Dalila, the title of the story comes from the song, it's fitting I think, download it and let me know. This fic is for [personal profile] scrie, who has been badly stressed out the last few weeks, she loves Byakuya/Hisana and I only hope that this fic lives up to everything she loves about them. I welcome any thoughts/reviews you might have. Now read on.
